About

Kolcovlap.hu is the official Hungarian online store for Kolcov plates (KFSZ): nearly 300 products, a 52-page thematic knowledge base, and a community of several hundred returning customers. The store has taken orders every day for years, and that daily flow was exactly what was at stake: the business couldn't stop for a single day during the move.

Challenge

Leaving a rented platform without losing a thing

The store ran on a rented platform, Webnode. The monthly fee buys convenience, but the real cost is dependence: the code doesn't belong to the owner, new features can't be added, speed and SEO are the provider's call, and the product images live on Webnode's CDN — when the subscription ends, all of it disappears.

The challenge was to move a live, revenue-generating business off the platform without losing a single product, URL, customer account, or order. On top of that, the design would stay: customers knew and loved the look, so the job wasn't a redesign but a pixel-perfect rebuild.

Solution

Rebuilt identically, then upgraded

I archived the original site in full — every page, image, and stylesheet, plus the complete product export — then rebuilt it on Next.js 16. The look isn't an approximation: the original stylesheets serve as the visual foundation and the pages are generated from the archived content blocks, so the result is measurably identical to the old site. An automated comparison checks every page line by line.

The store is statically generated, so a visitor's page load never triggers a single database query. Orders, members, and conversations live in Neon Postgres, payments run on Stripe, and shipping goes through GLS. What the old platform couldn't do now comes standard: a custom admin panel, an AI shopping assistant, abandoned-cart reminders, weekly automated backups, and a full English version. In detail:

  • 299 products with variants, served statically — no database queries, instant loading
  • Four-step checkout: card payment without leaving the site, bank transfer, or cash on delivery
  • GLS home delivery and a parcel-point picker with the original map interface
  • Members-only knowledge base: a 52-page thematic guide with cryptographically verified access
  • 273 legacy customer accounts preserved and switched to the store's own password login
  • AI shopping assistant that answers only from the store's own catalog
  • Custom admin panel: orders, inventory, products, members, and conversations on one screen
  • Full English version — 3,826 translated text strings, served from a single codebase
  • 299 old product links 301-redirected so established Google rankings aren't lost
  • Automated order emails, parcel tracking, abandoned-cart reminders, and weekly backups
  • Árukereső price-comparison integration: Megbízható Bolt (Trusted Shop) program and an automated product feed
  • Cookie-free, GDPR-compliant analytics with European data storage — no cookie banner
